MURALS
Welcome to the A.D.
Cook murals page. I'm a national award-winning muralist who brings
twenty-five years of experience to my work. My hand-painted murals
are enduring works of art. I'm enormously versatile,
combining solid draftsmanship with free-flowing
creativity.
Pricing for any type of hand painted
artwork including, wall murals and ceiling mural designs will be
determined after
I have conducted an onsite consultation. Some of the factors I
consider when pricing a mural include; the initial concept drawing
that
may
include research, study, sketches, the size or scale of the project,
complexity of the design, the timeframe that it will take for me
to complete the entire project, and ease or difficulty of access
to the
work area.
I will travel to your site most anywhere within the continental
United States. If you'd rather avoid disruption at your home or
business, or if you'd like to be able to move your mural with you,
I will
paint your mural
on canvas in studio, and either ship the finished mural to you
or deliver and install it personally. In many cases, it can be
mounted in place so that it can be removed and remounted elsewhere
later. Whether painted on site or in the studio, your mural is executed
to
the highest
professional standards with materials of archival quality. I design
and
paint each mural individually for each client - there are no "stock
or standard" designs,
and no work is parceled out to assistants. I work personally
with you to develop your design, and take tremendous pride in my
work to assure you a beautiful finished mural that you can enjoy
for years to come. Please feel free to contact me to help you realize
your vision from concept to completion.
Your mural can also be enhanced by faux finishes or trompe
l'oeil to create a complete environment.
Mural Prices —
Mural prices range from $50 to $150 per
square foot, depending on complexity, style, and size. Please feel
free to contact me for a preliminary quote with no obligation.
When
you commission your mural a non-refundable deposit of $1,000, fully
applicable to the final balance, is required to place you on my
waiting list and to secure the agreed-upon price for one year. I
will talk with you about your space, your design and your budget
goals, and provide you with a firm price in writing.

$ 75 per sq. ft.

detail

* This information is provided as a general
guideline only. Each project is estimated individually, and all project
variables are taken into consideration.
Your quote is based on the time estimated to complete your mural at the hourly
rates shown below, and size. While you'll never be charged more than the quoted
price for the mural as designed, I often devote more time than estimated, at
no extra charge, in order to satisfy my demanding standards. Since the time involved
is partly based on site conditions, I'll require photographs and details of the
site prior to providing an estimate. If upon my arrival the site is substantially
different from its representation, the quote will be adjusted accordingly. If
you request substantial changes or additions to the mural as designed and approved,
additional work will be charged at the hourly rates shown below. For work performed
at your site you'll be charged for travel expenses and reasonable accommodations.
Billing is in thirds, with one third of the agreed balance due upon signing
the Design Proposal. I will then begin research, sketches and pictures to develop
the final design. After your approval of the final design, we sign the
contract and schedule a starting time; the second third is due at agreement
of designs and prior to commencement of the mural, with the balance due in
full
upon satisfactory completion.
Hourly Rates —
There
is no charge for initial conference and a preliminary quote. Acquisition
of materials, subsequent conferences, and
travel up to a maximum of eight hours per day are charged as administrative
expenses. If upon the artist's arrival the site is not ready for commencement
of work an hourly administrative rate will be charged, up to a maximum of eight
hours per day, until work can be started. Materials, travel expenses, and shipping
are passed on at cost. Where appropriate, sales tax is charged on materials,
but not on time. Mileage is charged. There is no charge for extra time spent
at the artist's discretion on the design as approved. A fully itemized invoice
is presented upon completion of work and is due upon receipt. In the event
a commission is suspended or cancelled, the client will be billed for all work
performed to that point.
Designs, sketches, and samples remain the property of the artist unless otherwise
arranged. The artist retains the right to photograph and/or publish his work.
The privacy of clients will be protected unless the client desires to be credited.
Administrative expenses

Design work
$150 per hour
Work performed standing on the floor or ground
$200 per hour
Work performed standing on a ladder or scaffold
$250 per hour
Work executed on a ceiling

I take complete responsibility for the quality
of the work performed and will make every effort to complete a commission
to the client's
total satisfaction. I also warrant that the quality and style will
be comparable to photographic samples of prior work. Clients must
be aware, however, that they are commissioning a creative, and therefore
subjective, work of art. As the artist, I reserve final judgment.
Clients' requests for changes will be carefully considered and in
most cases will be made, but only at the my discretion. Together, my
hope and goal is that we can create a mural that we can all be proud
of.
Other Considerations:
Content —
In general, the more detailed a mural is, the
higher the cost. It takes more time to render figures, animals, flowers,
words and structures than abstracts and free form natural features
(such as stone, water, clouds and trees). "Faux" finishes
are easy to price by the hour depending upon the technique chosen.
But, "Trompe l'oeil" prices depend upon the amount of detail
and realism required. Sometimes a mural incorporates all these features.
My estimates are based on the number of features to be rendered,
the size (number of square feet) of the mural and other factors listed
below.
• Finish: As applicable,
but typically acrylic varnish as a protective coatings
A.D. Cook - Murals
Location —
Studio: Some murals can be created off-site on
masonite, sign board, marine board or canvas and installed at
the final location upon completion. Installation can be permanent
or
temporary depending upon the materials used. 3-D murals can also
sometimes be done at the studio and delivered in pre-assembled sections
to
the site.
On Site: Most clients prefer a permanent mural painted or affixed
directly on the wall. The process and progress each day is also fascinating
to watch. Work
on site at commercial locations is also stimulating to business.
Customers will visit more often to see the work progress. The cost
of on site work depends upon your location and distance.
You have the option of providing my wife and myself with a safe and
secure parking area for the duration of the work, or paying for
RV parking at an agreed
upon
RV Park. Most murals can be completed in
one to two weeks.
Travel
is
also charged to and from the site, or is factored in when I give
you the final cost.
Surface Preparation —
An ideal preparation for a painted mural would
be a flat surface primed with a bright white gesso. Your price will
be affected by
how much preparation work will be required before I can begin work.
Patching, sanding, priming and sealing may be required depending
upon your wall material and condition. These procedures will also
be included in your final quote if needed.
Most murals are quoted on a per project basis.
The price is estimated by the number hours or days it will take
to complete
the mural plus materials and travel expenses. Your mural can run
anywhere from $2,500 to $50,000 depending upon all the factors listed
above.
My mural prices are very reasonable by any standards. But, when you
consider what a well rendered mural can do, my work is priceless.
A mural can make a huge statement in any room and change an entire
environment.
