Movies are a
real passion for A.D. Cook, who hand painted hundreds of airbrushed
murals during his five years (1989-1994) as Hollywood
Video's resident artist, designer and creative director.
The murals started out as traditional wall murals only in the
sense that they were painted on walls. Later they became mural
size
canvas paintings, which were created at the Hollywood Video studio
in Portland, Oregon, and then displayed in the video stores throughout
the Northwest. Later, they were painted, then
photographed, and the reproductions installed as wall mural wallpaper
instead of the actual paintings. That was the beginning of the
end for hand-painted murals in the
Hollywood Video stores. Still, a good run, with lots of hand-painted
murals still existing in some stores. This site
reflects a relatively small selection of them. |
